William Sohmer Memorial Scholarship
We are proud to announce the William Sohmer Memorial Scholarship, created in his honor to help fund a student’s tuition to our Summer Musical Theatre Workshop. This scholarship will ensure that Bill’s legacy continues – giving young performers, set designers, costumers and more the chance to discover their own love for the art of theatre.

In Loving Memory of William Sohmer (11/13/1945 - 08/16/2025)
In the summer of 2025, we said goodbye to our beloved scenic designer, Bill Sohmer — a treasured part of the CCYT family. From the Santa Fe Opera to 25 years at the Metropolitan Opera, Bill’s artistry lit up some of the world’s greatest stages.
But his most meaningful work? Creating magical scenery for our kids.
Bill was more than a designer — he was a friend, a mentor, and a joyful spirit behind the scenes. His legacy lives on in every set, every smile, and every story he helped bring to life.
